FINANCIAL BENEFITS FOR VETERANS
VETERANS BENEFITS FOR SENIOR LIVING
Honoring Your Service With Meaningful Support
If you or your spouse served in the military, you may be eligible for Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits that can help make senior living more affordable. These benefits are designed to support veterans and their families by offsetting the cost of care—so you can focus on living well with the support you deserve.
At Brio Living Services, we’re honored to help guide veterans and their families through available options and connect you with the resources you need.
HOW VA BENEFITS CAN HELP
Financial Support That Helps Cover the Cost of Daily Living
While the VA does not pay assisted living communities directly, it offers financial assistance that can be used toward the cost of care.
These benefits are paid directly to eligible veterans or surviving spouses and can be applied to services such as:
- Help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and mobility
- Medication management and personal care
- Meals, housekeeping, and supportive services
- Access to wellness programs and community amenities
For many families, these benefits can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses and make high-quality care more accessible.
MONTHLY BENEFIT AMOUNTS (2026)
Depending on your eligibility, you may receive monthly financial support to help cover the cost of care:
- Married Veteran: $2,795/month
- Single Veteran: $2,358/month
- Healthy Veteran with Ill Spouse: $1,851/month
- Surviving Spouse: $1,515/month
The VA’s Aid & Attendance benefit can provide up to $2,795 per month—over $25,000 annually*—to help cover the cost of care for eligible veterans and their spouses. (Benefit amounts are subject to change annually and may vary based on individual circumstances).
These funds are paid directly to you and can be used toward services and support within a senior living community.
Key VA Benefit Programs

WHO MAY BE ELIGIBLE?
Eligibility for VA benefits generally depends on three key factors:
MILITARY SERVICE
- Active duty service (typically at least 90 days, with wartime service requirements)
- Discharge under conditions other than dishonorable
MEDICAL NEED
- Assistance required with daily living activities
- Or a qualifying disability or health condition
FINANCIAL CRITERIA
- Income and asset limits apply
- Benefits are designed for those who demonstrate financial need
- Surviving spouses of eligible veterans may also qualify for certain benefits.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS
Veterans have access to a range of care options depending on their needs, including:
- Assisted living communities
- Home-based care services
- Nursing care or rehabilitation
- Adult day programs and respite care
In many cases, VA benefits can be combined with other resources such as private pay, long-term care insurance, or Medicare/Medicaid (when applicable).
